Friday, June 9
A few small-group activities are being organized by the cousins and require advanced sign-up. In addition to the activities listed below, visit the Things To Do page for ideas on self-guided activities available throughout Charlottesville for the entire weekend.
Rivanna River Float : 9am-12noon The Rivanna River runs through the heart of Charlottesville before combining with the James River and heading towards the Chesapeake Bay. This canoe and kayak trip is a great chance to get outside, experience the waterfront, or wet a fishing line. Participants will need appropriate clothing and watershoes, but all other gear will be provided. [Sign-up with Chris – firstname.lastname@example.org]
Jones Mt. Cabin Hike : 9am-3pm This moderate-vigorous hike in the Shenendoah National Park is breath-taking. A 45-minute carpool will gather at the trailhead, and the hike beside the Rapidan and Staunton Rivers leads up to the cabin. [Sign-up with Matt – email@example.com]
Golf : Morning Tee-times for 9 or 18-holes will be available at one of Charlottesville’s favorite courses. Additional locations and resources for golfing are available throughout the weekend. [Sign-up with Tam.Murray@sharedsites.com]
UVA Rotunda and Lawn Tour : 10am-12noon The heart of Thomas Jefferson’s “Academical Village”, there is much to see at the newly renovated Rotunda and adjoining Lawn. [Sign-up with Jim – firstname.lastname@example.org]
Monticello Tour : 2pm-4pm The historic home to Thomas Jefferson with inspiring architecture and stunning gardens. [Sign-up with Jim – email@example.com]
6:00pm – Welcome Dinner at Panorama Farms in Earlysville.
If you have not already received your welcome materials, nametags, and merchandise, they will be available at this event. Additionally, various T.E. Murray family archive information will be available for viewing and distribution. No group transportation will be provided, but family members with transportation conflicts should inquire about carpooling. Both Uber and Lyft operate in Charlottesville.
Saturday, June 10
8:30am Murray Family 2 Mile Run/Walk at Panorama Farms :
Join us for your morning exercise on this NCAA-rated cross country course. Bagels, bananas and coffee will be available, and prizes will be awarded.
9:30am – 11:30am Open House at Panorama Farms :
Following the run/walk, we encourage family members to enjoy the farm by taking additional walks or bike rides, receiving a gator tour, or exploring other parts of the property. Kid’s activities will also be available at this time and may include water balloons, arts and crafts, and other ‘field-day’ activities.
5:00pm Main event at V House
To culminate the Reunion weekend, Jim and Bruce Murray welcome everyone to their home for a classic Virginia gathering complete with a bluegrass band and BBQ! Guests interested in pool swimming before the party should come at 4pm with suits and towels. There will be a group photo at 6pm.
BUS SCHEDULE :
Swimming at V house is available at 4pm, and the official party begins at 5pm. Look for the painted school buses with “MURRAY REUNION” in the window. Bus will pick up in main parking lot for English Inn. Bus will pickup at Marriott (for both Marriott/Omni guests) on the side of the hotel with the parking lot, opposite W. Main Street. Omni guests should walk away from the pedestrian mall uphill on Water St. and cross Ridge/McIntire St. at the stoplight to reach the Marriott. Sign-up is not required but all trips are first-come, first-served.
Pickup at English Inn : 3:05pm and 4:20pm
Pickup at Marriott/Omni : 3:20pm and 4:40pm
Buses will depart V House for both hotels at 8:00pm and 9:15pm
Sunday, June 11
9:00am Panorama Farms : Mass will be said by Fr. Michael F. Suarez, S.J., whose mother was friends with the Murray family in Manhattan. Michael teaches English at UVA; officiated at both Bunny and Jim’s funerals; and is a good friend of the family.
Casual farewell breakfast to follow.
