Charter and Marie live in the house that they built together in the woods of New Hampshire, one of a dozen or so domiciles that formed a “hippie commune” in the Seventies and has morphed into an aging version with much of the same original spirit and eccentricity.
Charter, a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and the London School of Film Technique, is one half of Isinglass Marketing, the business-to-business communications company he and Marie formed almost 40 years ago. He is also a freelance photographer whose documentary work has been shown in galleries and in print and electronic publications nationwide. His portfolios are at www.charterweeks.com
Marie is a writer, editor and copywriter, author of four volumes of poetry, three children’s books and editor of several anthologies. She was New Hampshire’s poet laureate from 1999-2004. She can be found at www.marieharris.com
Son Bill lives in Seattle with his wife Julie, a psychotherapist who graduated from the University of Oregon and completed graduate work at Bastyr University in Seattle. Bill teaches African drumming and is the author of a series of instructional books and DVDs, all of which can be found at www.congajoy.com He is also an accomplished painter (www.billmatthewsart.com ). Julie is a psychotherapist. Alison is a classically-trained concert singer and actress. Davie-Blue is an actress, writer and founder of the Enchanted Children’s Imagination School in LA. Raven is a writer and hip hop performer in Seattle. Summer is graduating from the Santa Fe University of Art and Design.
Son Sebastian is a writer and teacher living in Asheville, NC. He is the author of several collections of poetry and working on a novel, The Life and Times of American Crow (www.sebastianmatthews.com). His wife, Ali Climo, holds a PhD in Social Work from the University of Michigan and has recently retired from her position at Warren Wilson College to begin a new career as a consultant specializing in issues surrounding aging. Their son, Avery, completed his studies for his Bar Mitzvah last spring and will enter high school in the fall. He is an excellent student and a fine athlete in several sports.
Son Manny is an artist, skier, and fan of flying both in planes and with remote control ones. He works for the Barrington School District in their maintenance department.
